Delhi Traffic Police: The Government of India has made some road rules for people safety. These rules must be followed by all people specially who ride, or drive on the roads. One of the most important rules is wearing a helmet while riding a bike.
Helmet as a gift by Delhi Traffic Police:
To help people follow this rule, the Delhi Traffic Police has made a special plan. If anyone is caught riding a bike without a helmet, they will not only get a challan (a fine), but they will also be given a helmet as a gift. The police hope that by giving helmets, people will understand how important safety is.
The Delhi Traffic Police wants bike riders to change their bike riding habits. They want bike riders to wear helmets all the time, not just only when they see the police. Many riders hang the helmet on the handle and wear it only when they see a police. But, this is not the right way. Helmets should be worn all the time while riding. It can save lives.
Safety than getting caught:
Wearing a helmet is not just about avoiding fines. It protects your head if an accident happens. The Delhi Traffic Police wants people to care more about safety than getting caught. That is why they came up with this idea – to fine people who don’t wear helmets but also give them a new one.
The police officers say, If you are caught without a helmet, we will give you a new one and say, please wear it next time. It can save your life. But yes, the fine will still be there. This is not just to punish, but to make people more aware of safety.

To run this campaign, the Delhi Traffic Police bought 1,000 helmets. These helmets were bought under CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds. The campaign is being led by Additional Commissioner Satyaveer Katara and DCP Shashank Jaiswal.
According to reports, in 2024, many people died in road accidents because they were not wearing helmets. Around 611 bike riders died, and more than 2,000 were injured. So, the traffic police are taking this issue seriously.
To avoid getting a challan, follow these easy tips:
- Keep all your vehicle documents updated.
Always carry your driving license, vehicle registration (RC), insurance papers, and PUC (Pollution Certificate). If any of these are missing or expired, your vehicle can be fined. - Do not use mobile phones while driving.
Using a phone while riding or driving is dangerous. You may not see what’s happening on the road, and that can cause accidents.
The Delhi Traffic Police is working hard to keep the roads safe. They are not just giving fines, but also helping people by giving helmets and spreading awareness.
Let’s be smart and safe on the roads. Wear your helmet every time you ride a bike. It’s a small step, but it can save your life.
